Program Description
The Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy (DMFT) program is a 2-year, 56-unit, online, professional doctorate degree. This program is available to graduated master’s students in marriage and family therapy, or a similar master’s degree. Student's must be Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) tracking (e.g., hold an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist designation with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences [BBS], or achieve this goal prior to enrollment in the program). Considerations for students holding similar licensures will be made as well as non-California master's-level licenses.
The DMFT program is designed to advance the education and training of master's trained MFTs seeking to deepen clinical expertise, develop supervision and consultation skills, develop leadership in the profession, and contribute to the field through applied scholarship.
The program is a practice-oriented doctoral program that positions graduates to provide advanced clinical services, supervise future therapists, consult for and assume leadership roles in organizations, teach in higher education, and contribute to evidence-based practice.
